I think the correct answer is the binary file moves to contentstore.deleted folder immediately.

Really? I thought the binary file stays in contentstore if it is still referenced by the node table.

No, I believe the system waits 14 days before deleting the file in contentstore.deleted folder.

I think when you empty the trashcan, the file moves to contentstore.deleted folder by default.
