Starting the iMac to OS X Recovery and reinstalling OS X seems like a drastic solution.

I agree, Safe Boot is a good way to troubleshoot login issues.

I heard that holding the Shift key at start up to Safe Boot can help with that.

If all else fails, maybe option B to reinstall OS X could solve the problem.

I think that could work, but it might be a bit more advanced for some users.

But what if that doesn't work? Should we try option D to manually delete the login items?

Option A sounds good. Let's try holding the Shift key at startup.

Ha! Good catch, Asuncion. That's gotta be a trick answer. I'm definitely not going with C.

Wait, did anyone else notice the typo in option C? It says 'mo' instead of 'then'. I'm not even sure what that would do!

True, B does seem a bit extreme. I'm leaning towards D - using the Recovery Mode to access Terminal and delete the login items directly.

Hmm, I don't know about that. Wouldn't reinstalling the OS in Option B be a bit overkill? That seems like a lot of work just to disable login items.

I think I know the answer! It's A. Holding the Shift key at startup will boot the iMac into Safe Mode, which disables login items.
