BCS Exam MBP18 Topic 10 Question 47 Discussion

Actual exam question for BCS's MBP18 exam
Question #: 47
Topic #: 10
[All MBP18 Questions]

In order to identify potential improvements, a business analyst has been asked to document the current customer sales experience in a large, electrical superstore. Whilst shadowing a customer service advisor, a sale was lost because the advisor couldn't authorise a price discount for a customer, who had seen the product advertised at a lower price by a competitor. The customer advisor tried to discount the product to match the competitor's price but was unable to do so.

The customer service advisor explained that this discounting required management approval and. unfortunately, both managers authorised to do this were on their lunch break

What element of the POPII model had caused the sale to fail?

Technology could have helped solve this problem. An automated system to approve simple price matches would have prevented this sale from falling through.

Information seems to be the culprit here. The advisors should have had access to the necessary pricing and discount policies to handle this situation.

I believe it could also be Process, as the discounting process requiring management approval seems to be inefficient in this case.

I think the element that caused the sale to fail was People.

I agree with Gerald, the lack of management approval due to managers being on lunch break falls under People in the POPII model.

I bet the managers were off having a long lunch with the competition, trying to figure out how to undercut their own store's prices!

The inability to authorize a price discount definitely seems to be a process issue. The managers should have had a more streamlined approval process in place.
