Cisco Exam 300-610 Topic 1 Question 77 Discussion

Actual exam question for Cisco's 300-610 exam
Question #: 77
Topic #: 1
[All 300-610 Questions]

Refer to the exhibit. A Cisco engineer is configuring a customer scenario with 2 x MDS 9000 switches 24 x UCS B200M6 blade servers. UCS 64S4 Fabric Interconnect in end-host mode and 3 x UCS 5108 server chassis with 2408 Fabric Extenders The engineer installs 6 x SQL Server 2019 on all blades and then notices that there are read and write latencies What is the best way to balance the utilization across the shared ports?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

When restrictions on oversubscription ratios are disabled, the bandwidth allocation among the shared ports is proportionate to the configured speed. (If the configured speed is auto, then bandwidth is allocated assuming a speed of 4 Gbps.) For example, if you have three shared ports configured at 1, 2, and 4 Gbps, then the allocated bandwidth ratio is 1:2:4. In Cisco SAN-OS Release 3.0 and later (or when restrictions on oversubscription ratios are enabled), port bandwidths are allocated in equal proportions, regardless of port speed, so, the bandwidth allocation for the same three ports mentioned in the example would be 1:1:1.

Haha, you guys are really overthinking this. Why not just go with option D and disable those pesky oversubscription ratio restrictions? That's the easy way out, am I right?

Yeah, I guess it depends on the specific scenario.

Well, all options have their pros and cons.

I still think enabling 'Only dedicate rate mode' is the safest bet.

True, that could also be a good solution.

But wouldn't changing the assigned speed to 8 Gbps Auto also help?

I agree, disabling oversubscription restrictions will help balance utilization.

But what about option C, setting 4Gbps performance buffers? That could also help manage the latency, right? Seems like a more direct approach than just changing the speed.

Yeah, the key here is trying to balance the utilization across the shared ports. I'm thinking option B, changing the assigned speed to 8Gbps Auto, might be the best bet. That could help even out the traffic load.

Hmm, this question seems pretty tricky. We're dealing with a complex Cisco networking setup with MDS switches, UCS, and SQL Server. Latency issues are always a headache in these kinds of environments.
