Which one of the following statements is not true concerning DTIMs?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

Every Beacon frame must contain a DTIM is not a true statement concerning DTIMs. DTIM stands for Delivery Traffic Indication Message, and it is a subfield within the TIM (Traffic Indication Map) element in a Beacon frame. The DTIM indicates how many Beacon frames (including the current one) will appear before the next DTIM. For example, if the DTIM interval is set to 3, it means that every third Beacon frame will contain a DTIM. Buffered broadcast and multicast traffic will be transmitted following a DTIM, so that STAs in power save mode can wake up and receive them. The DTIM interval can also dictate when an STA will wake up to listen to Beacon frames, as some STAs may choose to only listen to Beacon frames that contain a DTIM . I'd say D is the wrong answer. Every Beacon frame should contain a DTIM... and a hot dog, and a complimentary espresso. You know, the works.

D is the answer, no doubt. I mean, who would think every Beacon needs a DTIM? That's like saying every car needs a steering wheel.

Hmm, I'd say A is not true. Buffered traffic is transmitted after the DTIM, not following it.

B seems like the right answer to me. The DTIM interval is crucial for when STAs wake up to listen to beacons.

I think D is the correct answer. Every Beacon frame definitely doesn't have a DTIM, that's just silly.

Haha, I bet the exam writer was dozing off during the DTIM lecture. How else could they mess up a question like this?
