Exin Exam CDCP Topic 5 Question 22 Discussion

Actual exam question for Exin's CDCP exam
Question #: 22
Topic #: 5
[All CDCP Questions]

What should be a consideration when having casters (rollers/wheels) or feet under the rack?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

The casters and feet under the rack are used to support the weight of the rack and its equipment, and to allow the rack to be moved if needed. However, the casters and feet should also be designed to avoid putting too much pressure on the floor tile, especially if the data centre uses a raised floor system. A too heavy point load on the floor tile can cause the tile to crack, deform, or collapse, which can damage the rack, the equipment, and the underlying infrastructure. To prevent this, the casters and feet should be larger, so that they can distribute the weight over a larger area and reduce the point load. The casters and feet should also be compatible with the floor type and the load rating of the floor tile.

Ooh, tricky one. I'm going with C - can't be having those hard casters scratching up the expensive tiles!

Sharika: That's a good point, we need to consider both the floor and the mobility of the racks.

User 3: I'm not so sure, I think D is important too. We need to be able to move the racks easily.

Haha, skirts on the racks? That's a good one! B is definitely not the right answer here.

A seems like the best option to me. Larger casters will distribute the weight better and prevent tile damage.

D is the way to go. Unlocked casters will let you move the racks around easily if you need to rearrange the data center.

Paulene: Plus, it's less strain on the floor tiles with the casters being able to move freely.

But wouldn't option C also be important to protect the raised floor tile?

I think the correct answer is C. Casters and feet should be made of a soft material like rubber to avoid damaging the raised floor tiles.
