Actual exam question for Fortinet's NSE7_EFW-7.2 exam
Question #: 10
Topic #: 4
[All NSE7_EFW-7.2 Questions]

Exhibit.

Refer to the exhibit, which contains the partial interface configuration of two FortiGate devices.

Which two conclusions can you draw from this con figuration? (Choose two)

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A, B

The Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) configuration in the exhibit indicates that 10.1.5.254 is set as the virtual IP (VRIP), commonly serving as the default gateway for the internal network (A). With vrrp-virtual-mac enabled, both FortiGates would use the same virtual MAC address, ensuring a seamless transition during failover (B). The VRRP domain does not use the physical MAC address (C), and the priority settings indicate that FortiGate-A would be the primary router by default due to its higher priority (D).

I don't think that's correct, it's not mentioned in the exhibit. So I believe option D is not valid.

But what about option D, saying FortiGate B is the primary virtual router by default?

I agree with you, that seems to be the case based on the exhibit.

I think option C is correct, the VRRP domain uses the physical MAC address of the primary FortiGate.

I believe option B is correct because failover often involves transferring the same settings to the new primary device.

I'm not so sure about option B. Can someone explain why the new primary device would use the same MAC address?

I agree with you, User1. Option A seems like a logical choice based on the configuration.

I think option A is correct because 10.1.5.254 is a common IP for a default gateway.

I hear you, man. These questions can be so tricky sometimes. But I think you're right, A and C are the safest bets here. I'm just hoping I don't accidentally select the wrong answer due to test anxiety or something.

Well, I'm leaning towards option B and C. From what I know about VRRP, the primary device should use the same MAC address even after failover. And the VRRP domain would use the physical MAC address of the primary FortiGate.

Yes, that's correct. The MAC address should remain the same on failover.

Definitely. I'm feeling fairly confident about options B and C, but I'm still a bit unsure about option D. Maybe we can do a quick review of the VRRP configuration to solidify our understanding.

Hmm, that makes sense. I'm also thinking option D might be correct, since FortiGate B is listed first in the configuration. But I could be wrong about that.

Haha, yeah, these certification exams are notorious for trying to throw in a curveball answer like that. I'm going to go with A and C as my final answer. Anything else, and I might as well just start flipping coins.

Hmm, that's a good point. I wasn't sure about B either. Maybe it's just trying to trick us with that one. As for D, I don't think that's correct since the configuration shows FortiGate A as the primary.

Haha, yeah, it's always a gamble with these certification exams. They love to throw in those tricky little details that can trip you up. But I think we're on the right track with our analysis so far.

You know, I was also thinking A and C, but I'm not too sure about B. Wouldn't the new primary device use a different MAC address on failover? I'm curious to hear what the other candidates think about that.

I agree, A and C sound like the most logical answers based on the information provided. The VRRP configuration suggests that the primary FortiGate is using the physical MAC address, and the network diagram shows 10.1.5.254 as the default gateway.

That's correct, the VRRP domain uses the physical MAC address of the primary FortiGate for failover.

So, the failover would not use the same MAC address as the old primary device, right?

This question seems pretty straightforward, but I'm not sure about the correct answers. I'm leaning towards A and C, but I want to hear what the rest of you think.
