That's true, but I still prefer the simplicity of option C.

But wouldn't creating a read replica on Cloud SQL as mentioned in option B also reduce downtime?

I think option D with PgBouncer is actually the most efficient method.

I disagree, I believe option C using Database Migration Service is the way to go.

I think option A is the best choice for minimum downtime.

Ooh, good point. Maybe we should just hire a skywriter to announce the migration. That would really minimize the downtime, don't you think?

What about the hot standby on Compute Engine? That's an interesting option. I wonder how it compares to the Database Migration Service in terms of complexity and reliability.

D) Create a hot standby on Compute Engine, and use PgBouncer to switch over the connections.

A) Perform a full backup of your on-premises PostgreSQL, and then, in the migration window, perform an incremental backup.

Haha, true, but then we'd have to manage the whole process ourselves. Not exactly the 'minimum downtime' part of the requirement, am I right?

This is a tricky question. I'm not sure if I should go with the full backup and incremental approach or the Database Migration Service. Both seem to have their pros and cons.
