Option A all the way! Keeping it simple with just the leaf switches is the way to go. Plus, who needs route reflectors when you've got VXLAN loopback IPs, am I right? *wink wink*

D) Leaf switches should establish iBGP sessions with spine switches on their actual P2P link IP addresses. Route reflectors are not required - Really? Establishing sessions with the spine switches directly? That seems a bit counterintuitive to me.

B) The border leaf switches should act as route reflectors and specify the leaf switches' VXLAN loopback IPs as route reflector clients - Border leaf switches as route reflectors? That's an interesting approach. I wonder if it would add any extra overhead though.

It can help with scalability and reduce the number of iBGP sessions leaf switches need to establish.

It's a common design choice to use border leaf switches as route reflectors in EVPN VXLAN setups.

C) At least one spine switch should act as route reflector and specify the leaf switches' unique loopback IPs as route reflector clients - Hmm, using the spine as a route reflector could work, but do I really want to add that extra complexity?

I think option D is the best choice. Leaf switches should establish iBGP sessions with spine switches on their actual P2P link IP addresses. Route reflectors are not required.

I see your point, Charisse. But I think option C makes more sense. At least one spine switch should act as route reflector and specify the leaf switches' unique loopback IPs as route reflector clients.

I disagree, I believe option B is the right choice. The border leaf switches should act as route reflectors and specify the leaf switches' VXLAN loopback IPs as route reflector clients.

I think option A is correct because leaf switches should establish iBGP sessions with other leaf switches using their VXLAN loopback IPs.

A) Leaf switches should establish iBGP sessions with other leaf switches using their VXLAN loopback IPs. Route reflectors are not required - This makes the most sense to me. Seems like a straightforward way to set up the EVPN neighbors.
