What is the primary purpose of a Network Security Group (NSG) in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Networking service?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

The primary purpose of a network security group (NSG) in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Networking service is to control traffic flow between specific resources within a VCN. An NSG is a set of virtual firewall rules that can be applied to one or more resources, such as instances, load balancers, or database nodes. NSGs allow users to define granular security policies for different types of resources within a VCN.

I suppose it's important to consider both internal and inter-VCN traffic when setting up NSGs.

I see where you're coming from, but I think the main focus is on controlling traffic within a VCN.

That's interesting, I always thought NSGs were more about internal traffic within a VCN.

I believe NSGs can also control traffic routing between VCNs.

I think option B is correct too, as NSG also helps in controlling traffic routing between VCNs.

That makes sense, NSG can help in securely connecting to on-premise resources.

I believe it's also used to provide a private connection between a VCN and an on-premises network.

So, it's all about managing the traffic within VCNs then.

Option B seems a bit off to me. Controlling traffic routing between VCNs is more of a function of a route table, not an NSG. I'm sticking with D.

Haha, good one Lashaunda. Knowing these certification exams, they'll probably have some trick answer that none of us are expecting. But I'm still going with option D.

I'm conflicted between options C and D. Both seem like valid primary purposes to me. Maybe the exam will throw us a curveball and it's something completely different!

I'm not so sure. Option C also seems like a valid answer. Providing a private connection between a VCN and an on-premises network is a pretty important function of an NSG.

I agree with Sylvie. Option D makes the most sense to me. Controlling traffic within a VCN is definitely the primary purpose of an NSG.

Hmm, this question seems pretty straightforward. I'm leaning towards option D as the primary purpose of an NSG is to control the traffic flow between specific resources within a VCN.
