Wait, does this mean I have to join the Job Relationships table twice? That's going to make my query look like the tax code!

That should help you get the desired result without joining the table twice.

No, you don't have to join the table twice. Just change the join type.

You're right, an inner join would only return rows that have matching values in both tables. That makes more sense for this scenario.

An inner join? That's just going to give me the intersection of the two tables. I need all the employees, even if they don't have a matrix manager assigned.

An inner join won't work for you. You need a left join to include all employees.

But wouldn't a left join include all rows from the first table, even if there are no matches in the second table?

I disagree, I believe the correct answer is D) Change the Job Relationship join to an inner join.

A right join? Really? That would just flip the tables and give me the managers first. I need the employees at the center of this query.

Got it, I'll try changing the join to a left join. Thanks for the clarification!

A right join would not work in this case. You need the left join to keep the employees at the center.

Hmm, I'm not sure a table restriction is the right approach here. Seems like that would just filter out the data I need.

A left join sounds like the way to go. That should give me the employee data and the matrix manager, even if there are multiple relationships.

That's correct! A left join will return all rows from the left table (employee data) and the matching rows from the right table (matrix manager) even if there are multiple relationships.
