A corporation needs to give their MS SQL DBAs a way to restore their MS SQL databases.

Which action would allow the corporation to grant this access without giving access to other operations?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C

To grant MS SQL DBAs the ability to restore their databases without giving access to other operations, the appropriate action is to give the DBA group Restore Operator access specifically to MS SQL databases within Veeam Enterprise Manager. This role-based access control allows DBAs to perform the needed restores while restricting access to other functionality. Reference:

I don't think that would be ideal. Option B seems more secure to me.

But what about option C? Wouldn't giving Restore Operator access to MS SQL DBs in Enterprise Manager also work?

I agree. Giving Restore Operator access to the backup server would be the best choice.

Yeah, giving the DBA group Restore Operator access to the backup server makes the most sense.

Option A is a non-starter, denying access to restore VMs is not going to help the DBAs do their job. We need to find a way to grant them the necessary access, not take it away.

Haha, I can just imagine the DBA group trying to restore the databases and accidentally wiping out the entire network. 'Oops, my bad!' Definitely want to avoid that scenario!

Yeah, Option C is a bit too broad. I like the idea of Option D, delegating just the application item recoveries to the DBA group. That way, they can handle restores without having full access to the databases.

Option C is tempting, but I'm a bit uneasy about giving the DBA group that level of access to the databases. What if they accidentally or maliciously delete something important?

I agree, we want to follow the principle of least privilege. Option B seems like the best choice to me - giving the DBA group Restore Operator access to the backup server, rather than granting them full access to the databases in the Enterprise Manager.

Hmm, this is an interesting question. I think the key here is to grant the DBA group the minimum level of access required to restore the databases, without giving them access to other sensitive operations.
